Lincoln, Nebraska September 19, 2018

Lincoln is the Capitol of Nebraska.  Their capitol building is nothing short of amazing.  Everything in the building tells a story from the artwork in the floors to the ceiling mosaics to the carvings of the building both inside and out.  The tour that we went on did an excellent job of pointing out all the thought and inspiration put into the designs and we realized had we not taken the tour we would have missed most of what this building is about. At first, I wanted to point out in all the pictures that I took all the insights and meanings that were shared, then I realized I would be embarking on writing a book.  I did find a good video online and although it is a bit slow to get started, I think it does a pretty good job of giving an overview of all we learned on our tour.  So with that, it is a suggested view.  This building has so much in grated thought I think it is fair to say it is a true masterpiece.  Nebraska Capitol Video

While about 1/2 of the world's sovereign states have unicameral governments, Nebraska state has the only unicameral legislative body in our country.  Nebraska, like the rest of the states in our country, had a bicameral legislative body until 1937 when the Nebraska Citizens voted to become a unicameral government.  At that time their Senate located in the capitol building became a meeting room and their house of representatives became their new Senate which is what they call their unicameral government today.

We left the capitol and had a delicious lunch at Banwich Café.  The picture is of my sandwich called ‘Thit Bo Kalbi’ or Kalbi beef with spicy mayo and kimchi. (Though I was only able to eat ½ of it).  I also had a Thai Coffee bubble tea with traditional tapioca.  We stopped in the Asian market next door bought a huge amount of Thai Chilies.  I share only because we usually pay more for one Thai Chili than we paid for this huge container.  The good news is they can be frozen so we are certainly well stocked in Thai Chilies for this trip and beyond.

Last, while in Lincoln we visited the National Museum of Roller Skating.  Exhibit SummariesThis museum contains the largest collection in the world of roller skates dating back to 1819.  The museum includes the evolution of roller skates, their wheels, and roller skating sports such as artistic skating, speed skating, inline skating, roller derby, and roller hockey.  There is also a lot of information on different patents for the various historic exhibits.  Within the museum are different videos from years past competitions.  Today there are still 374 artistic roller skating clubs that hold national competitions.
